I’m Proud to be an American

Last night, like many American’s I sat glued to my TV and watched history unfold. In the course of a single evening, we as a country took a big step towards fulfilling Martin Luther King Jr’s dream. In one night we showed that we will measure a man not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. We took a giant step forward and away from the stain of slavery. There is still much work to be done, but we as a people showed that we are still working to do as our founding fathers charged us; ‘to form a more perfect union’. It’s a work in progress, but I’m proud to be a part of it.
Listening to President elect Barack Obama’s words, I was also struck that this election means more than just the achievement of electing our first African American president, it was about selecting the right leader to help guide America through the challenges we’re facing. We’re living in tough times and we need the right person to lead us, I believe we made the right choice there too. Finally it marks the beginning of the next generation of leaders. The generation of the Bush’s, the McCain’s, and the Gore’s are being retired. It’s time for the passing of the torch and first up is Obama.
While I have concerns over the current state of our union; the war, the economy, health care and education, I’m excited to have a president I can believe in. We have a new leader, it’s time to take up the charge and follow. Obama can lead, but it’s up to us to really effect change. I hope and pray we’re successful.
Until next time…
